Both of these articles really are pulling me in 2 completely different directions with their opinions, but I honestly don't see enough facts to swing me one way or the other. Since I heard the story of Noah when I was about 4 years old, I have thought that the flood in Genesis 6-9 was worldwide, as in it covered the entire earth. I have not even considered thinking about it in a different way until reading these two articles.
"So God said to Noah, 'I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.'" - Genesis 6:13. In this verse God is saying that he wants "to put an end to all people"; he doesn't specifically say that he will flood the earth. The definition of the word earth, according to dictionary.com is "the surface of this planet" or "the solid matter of this planet", so God could have told the author of Genesis to write the word earth meaning the physical land only in that certain region.
I also believe that God could have told the author of the Old Testament book of Genesis to write the word earth meaning this entire planet as a whole, as that is the other meaning of the word. Truthfully speaking from my own opinion and point of view, I think that God flooded the whole earth. I mean, think about it for a minute, the earth had been formed at least several hundred years before Noah and the Ark, so the descendants of Adam and Eve could have not only moved around, but they could have moved to the other ends of the earth by then. Especially when you consider how long some people lived back then. They could have made one single journey that lasted half of their lifetime! That is why I honestly believe that the flood that God sent to put an end to all inhabitants of the earth, except Noah and his family, was over the entire earth, as in all of the land on this planet. God says that the mountains were covered with water from the flood. Mountains: plural. I still think that God flooded the earth globally, and I will always believe that.
